What makes the Pink Moon 2027 special
The Pink Moon is usually the Paschal Moon, the first full moon of spring, which sets the date of Easter. A full moon low on the horizon can look orange or red because the atmosphere scatters the blue light away, but it is never pink.
Sky descriptions are for the Northern Hemisphere; south of the equator the seasons and the Moon’s height are reversed.
Why it is called the Pink Moon
The name comes from moss pink, or creeping phlox, one of the earliest wildflowers to carpet the ground in eastern North America in April. The Moon itself does not turn pink.

The Pink Moon in lunar tradition
A moon of growth and fresh starts in folklore, tied to the first flowers and the return of birds and fish.
Peak sowing weeks in the temperate Northern Hemisphere: tradition sows leafy and fruiting crops under the waxing Moon before the Pink Moon and root crops and transplants under the waning Moon after it. The day of the full moon itself is a harvest-and-rest day.
With the Moon in Scorpio, a water sign, the day of the Pink Moon 2027 is a leaf day in the garden tradition. The Moon in Scorpio page explains what the sign means; the planting calendar and the hair calendar turn the phase into dates.
